Dan Coast is all set to spend Christmas just the same way he has every year for the past few years; alone and drunk. But when uninvited, unexpected guests arrive and throw a wrench into his holiday plans he is forced to sober up (slightly), and throw on a smile. Just when it seems nothing else could go wrong, a close friend is injured in what appears, to the police, to be a drug deal gone bad. Dan Coast and his sidekick, Red jump into action to find the truth while their friend lays unconscious in the hospital.

Dan, you can't ask that question of people.
As you can see Dan Coast has a wee bit of
sarcasm about him.
Dan is a amateur PI and Key West bar fly.
He has won the lottery, something he asks you not
to mention to anyone.
His wife was killed in a car accident, that some say, his
dog caused.
This story is set at Christmas time, and Dan has zero
Christmas spirit. as he drinks his way through the Holiday.
After crawling his way home, yes I said crawling, he is
surprised by some visitors, no Dan, not the Ghosts of
Christmas past, sorry folks, it is his parents, they came to
Key West in hopes of restoring some Christmas cheer and
to keep Dan from embalming himself with mixed drinks.
Along with some missing drugs and a "Tiny Tim" like
character, we have the usual Dan Coast tale.
Will things work out for Dan and his rag tag crew?
Read and find out.
One bit of advice though.......before you climb a chain
link fence, check to see if the gate is locked, and before
you kick in a door, check to see if it is unlocked.

This book is a fill in book from the sequence of Dan's life stories. You get to meet his parents visit with his friends and meet new characters with even the surfer dude. Christmas is a terrible time for Dan and his past haunts him. At the end Dan gets stabbed in the heart as he drinks his tequila on Christmas day. Great read.
Very enjoyable reading. I have enjoyed all of the action series with Dan Coasts. This caricature is very much a normal person. You can almost see yourself getting into the problems he does. I'm very much looking forward to seeing more books with this series.
With Rodney Riesel's Dan Coast novels you feel as though you know the characters personally so if you want some interesting adventures with the best of characters.... check it out. This book was so close to reality. I could envision every step with Dan Coast, his neighbor, family and pals. Thank you for sharing your blessing of authorship .
I enjoyed this novel as it reminded me of people in my life (who are now dead) that lived the same way. Never let murder and mayhem stand in the way of your alcohol consumption. Solve the problem sober or drunk( after all didn't Doc Holiday say"I am drunk but I have two guns, one for each of you" It is a novel to be read to learn that not all alcoholics are drunks.
Poor Dan. I started reading the Dan Coast books because I live in the Keys and there was a dog involved. The dog plays a major part in the story but, it isn't about the dog. The stories are always good and he describes the characters and locations well. This book had a totally different ending than I was expecting but, I guess that's in keeping with the story.
These are interesting books, but sometimes I get confused by Dan's personality. He is very saddened by his wife's untimely death, but gets into a lot of scrapes trying to solve crimes. He sometimes jumps between being a comedic character like Stephanie in the Janet Evanovich books and a serious character like Bosch in connolley's books. also occasionally the author make usage errors and there are a few typos. Overall, they are entertaining and better than many books around.
I have not enjoyed any books this much in a long, long time. Mr. Riesel actually made me laugh out loud a few times in each one of his Dan Coast
stories. This review is applicable to all of them. They are quick reads. I would normally read one a day or maybe two days at the most. My only complaint is that I have read them all. They are hilarious. The characters are rich in personality and he makes you really like the good guys and
dislike the bad guys. But even the drama is comical so the books make for a relaxing break from reality.
