Book twenty-three in the Cattle Valley Series
Born a man, Kit always felt cheated out of the life he was meant to live. Growing up in Arkansas, Kit was forced to hide behind the masculine clothes and haircuts favoured by the other boys in the small community. The minute Kit graduated high school, he pushed away the male way of life then reached for her dream of living as a woman. With newly augmented breasts, Kit arrives in Cattle Valley in hopes of gaining acceptance.
Gabe “Hawk” Hawkins is in search of more than a place to lay his head when he too comes to Cattle Valley. He’s on the hunt for his son. When he meets Kit at the local gym, he’s knocked sideways by her incredible body and big smile.
It soon becomes clear that there’s more to Kit than meets the eye. Luckily for Hawk, he’s an equal opportunity lover and won’t let the sassy blonde push him away no matter what others say about him. People may not trust Hawk’s motives for being in town, but he hopes Kit will look past his mistakes to see the man he longs to be.
Reader Advisory This book contains a transgender storyline.
Cattle Valley Hawk Landing edition by Carol Lynne Literature Fiction eBooks
Wow! Just Wow!This is not only my first Carol Lynne story but my first transgender story to boot, and what an amazing story to start with.
I have to touch on the note from Carol at the start of the book. She explains how some may be left feeling cheated over her not giving too much detail in the "Why Kit is who she is."
This is where I am torn. I completely understand what Carol is saying about not needing to justify why Kit is the way she is, and honestly, the story really didn't need Kit's full history, as this isn't Kit's story, I do think to have some more background, some of her trials and tribulations that brought her to the woman sh is now is what would have taken this book from great to totally epic.
That being said, that would have changed the whole dynamic of the story, it would have been more about Kit's self-discovery instead of how she met and fell in love with Hawk, and that would have totally sucked. Perhaps Kit can get a story all about her earlier years and the transformation.
But until then, let's get on with This story.
I love this story for so many reasons.
Kit has been dealing with narrow-minded people for so long that her self-esteem has taken quite a blow, it's truly heartbreaking at moments how she thinks of herself. Kit sticks to herself, the seeming open town of Cattle Valley may be mostly accepting, but it still has its fair share of jerks.
Hawk is . . . . incredible.
While being extremely wealthy, Hawk didn't have the best start in life after his mother passed at a young age and he was sent to live with his dad, once learning he has a son, Joey, he packs up and heads to Cattle Valley with the soul purpose of getting to know him.
He's one of the rich playboy types until he walks into The Gym and his eyes land on Kit. From the second he see's her, his thoughts are of nothing but 100% acceptance (and protectiveness and boobs lol) of her as a person, not a gender and this is where Kit flourishes.
I love how Hawk pulls Kit out of her shell little by little as they both fall hard and fast as these two heat up your kindles and get to know each other. Speaking of getting to know people, I love the interactions with Hawk, Kit, Hawks son Joey and his daddies, Rance and Bo, and of course, Brac. I just really wish it was longer so that their relationships could have expanded.
All in all, this is an alluring story of self-acceptance and discovery, mending some old wounds and of course, a beautiful love story that will leave you begging for more.

Cattle Valley Hawk Landing edition by Carol Lynne Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I didn't realize what this book was about when I ordered it. It was not my kind of reading. Not the sellers fault.
I have read a few other Cattle Valley novels and found this one shorter than the others. I was hoping for a more angst-y read or more characterization in the transgender character. It was a little happier, perhaps happy go lucky ish, and it wasn't what I was wanting/expecting.
SPOILER ALERT
The transgender character seemed like a stand in for two other characters in a manage a trois. The bisexual character liked that it was both sexes in one package. I felt that this book played on bad stereotypes for both characters. That was a turn off.
The cattle Valley series book after the cut and run series this is by far the best romance/story series I read. It got all love, romance, sweet stories, great stories, tragic stories and lots of HEAs. My favorites by far are Rio, Ryan and Nate.
I've read all of Carol Lynne's Cattle Valley stories and love them all. This one was certainly different, and I have to say, I learned something you refer to a transgendered person by the gender they identify themselves with. Carol did a great job handling this issue and turned out another sweet love story. There's also a little side story about a couple of old Cattle Valley favorites. Well worth the read.
I really don't know how to rate books from this series. They are very readable but they incorporate the worst of the romance genre. You get insta love. You get male/female pairings just that both have willies - I know that this book is different because Kim was transgendered, but other books in this series have a similar feel even if both romantic leads are 'traditional' gay men. There are good characters in these books but I feel that the whole thing needs to be fleshed out more, characters & storyline, to make the books in this series really good. I'll probably keep on reading the books but I'm always left hungry ... there isn't quite enough story to satisfy.

This book isn't horrible to the point one could not go on to finish reading the story. It's not a great story either where the characters are worth remembering and holding on to. This story is fluff, positive fluff. The transgender aspect is wonderful to explore and is incredibly lifelike in terms of how one sees and handles themself in regards to the public and family. The story is an easy read filled with idealistic scenarios and positivity.
